Firecracker

My roommate and I were doing some shopping at Wal-Mart today (yeah, yeah, yeah, I know...) and I happened to notice a chocolate bar I had never seen before.  In fact, I've never even heard of this brand so far as I can remember.  The concept of the chocolate was both intriguing and a little confusing--you've got spicy chipotle and sea-salt, which I get.  Spice and salt are two of my favorite additions to any chocolate, especially if there's caramel involved.  (Those sea-salt caramels my boyfriend made me last weekend?  He has decided that for the next batch he's adding chipotle.  Go figure.)  What I didn't understand was the 'popping candy.'  Are you telling me there are POP-ROCKS in my chocolate?  Woah.

So, I bought it.  Why wouldn't I have?

And let me tell you--whoever had the idea to add popping candy to chocolate is a GENIUS.  I'll admit, I was a little skeptical of the popping candy at first, because I was imagining it as actual pop rocks, with the candy coating like Nerd's has.  But not so--turns out my skepticism was completely unfounded, because the 'popping candy' isn't so much 'candy' as it is... popping 'stuff.'  It doesn't add a flavor component, but rather a texture element, which I always appreciate in a chocolate.

Unfortunately, I've already eaten almost the entire bar, despite opening it immediately after a very large and satisfying dinner.  I will definitely be keeping an eye out for this chocolate in the future, and trying everything this brand has to offer.

My boyfriend made me chocolate sea-salt caramels tonight.  I wasn’t allowed in the kitchen for a large period of time, and when I was allowed in the kitchen, I was banned from the fridge.  In the end, totally worth it.  I’ve had home-made caramels before, but I can’t say I’ve have home-made sea salt caramels, and certainly not covered in chocolate.  These will definitely have to be made for me at least once a month.
